Lewis Broschard

Fire Chief, Contra Costa County Fire

Fire Chief Lewis Broschard has a fire service career spanning over 30 years. His experience includes positions and responsibilities in emergency operations, fire prevention, administration, and executive leadership. He promoted through the ranks of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and was appointed Fire Chief on April 1, 2019. The all-hazards metro agency now serves almost 800,000 residents in 13 cities across 582 square miles and provides 911 emergency ambulance services across almost 90% of this San Francisco Bay Area county with a total resident population of over 1.1 million people.

During his tenure as Fire Chief, Contra Costa County Fire has expanded wildland fire programs and resources to include a firefighting helicopter, a Type 2 Hand Crew, staffed bulldozer, a countywide Fire Safe Coordinator, opened a dedicated camp for the hand crew, and implemented a countywide wildland fuel mitigation program.

Chief Broschard holds a BS in Managerial Economics from UC Davis, an MBA from JFK University, and he is a CSAC Credentialed County Executive. He has also been certified by the Office of the State Fire Marshal as a Fire Prevention Officer; Fire Officer; and Chief Officer.

Chief Broschard has been married for over 28 years and is the father of twin 21 year old sons.
